about

ed/ts by Adash - a compilation of edits made from 90's house records near and dear to the Motion Studies community.

Hot Hot Hot is a song first written and recorded by Montserratian musician Arrow, featured on his 1982 studio album, Hot Hot Hot. The song was a commercial success with remixes later released by American singer Buster Poindexter in ’87 and the “World Carnival Mix ’94” by Les Adams. The ’94 release was a dance floor hit, peaking at No. 38 on the UK Singles Chart, and No. 15 on the UK Dance Chart.

A remix in the 94’ World Carnival release entitled the Outrageous Mix is a regular cut on the Motion Studies dance floor. This record is brought to a majority of MS events due to its high demand from loving regulars. An individual edit was born subsequently titled the Outrageous Adash Mix. This one is for Andre.

Fusing influences from electro-soul, funk, downtempo and tribal house music, Basscut have produced one major label studio album and 23 singles since their appearance in the 90’s. The two person group, consisting of Elisa Burchett and Heinrich Zwahlen, pioneered live electronic music performances around NYC and internationally in the early stages of Broadway pressings. The group appeared on a handful of compilations including Ultra Records' Ultra Chilled Vol. 3, Delicious Vinyl's Prime Cuts Vol. 1, and SM:)E Communications' 'TRIBAL Best of House Music Vol. 6.’

Basscut’s 1995 dance floor hit Follow Me manages to embody the Brooklyn tribal house ethos in an eclectic and stylish fashion, with a chorus demanding your dedicated movement, it’s hard not to feel immersed with a sense of herd mentality and cultish behavior at it’s core. An enticing track that surprisingly scares you as it unfolds, Follow Me by Basscut is a Motion Studies favorite providing fond dance floor memories, whether wrong or right.

Motion Studies is a Brooklyn DJ session series dedicated to displaying gradual shifts in movement, tempo, and directional change over time. Founded in 2021, Motion Studies has since committed to congregating and moving the masses through the enriching power of sound, space, and communal gathering.
